Game Day Preview: Women's Basketball Heads to N.Y. to Face off Against Molloy University

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team heads to N.Y. to take on Molloy University on Wednesday.

Scouting UDC 

The Firebirds head into this conference match up, coming off a 44-50 loss to D'Youville University last Friday. They were led by Destiny Ryles and Latavia Jackson who both posted 14 points and Tori Williams grabbed a game high 8 rebounds and 12 points. Ryles currently leads the ECC averaging 17.3 PPG, and Jackson is second with 16.0 PPG. Both have also earned ECC Player of the Week honors this season. Ryles also leads the conference in steals and assists per game. UDC is currently 7-8 on the season and 2-2 in conference play. They opened up conference play defeating preseason favorites St Thomas Aquinas College 68-58 at the end of November. UDC entered the 2022-23 season voted to place third in the ECC preseason poll. They finished 13-15 last season and had their first post season appearance in the conference since 2016. This marked the first under head coach John Nakpodia. 

Scouting Molloy

Molloy dropped their last three games, including a conference match up against Queen's College, falling to 3-11 on the season and 2-3 in conference play. Trinity Hudson leads the team with 11.6 PPG and is fourth in the conference with 8.1 RPG. Gianni Domond is third in the ECC pulling down 8.3 RPG. Molloy was voted to place 5th in the ECC preseason poll after finishing 17-10, 13-5 in the ECC last season. They finished second in the conference last year falling to Daemen in the ECC Championship Final round. This year, so far they've defeated D'Youville University, fell to Queens College and Daemen University, and split games against Roberts Wesleyan. 

History

The last time these two teams met was on February 2nd, 2022 and Molloy walked away with the 63-55 victory. The all-time meeting record between these two teams is 12-8, in favor of the Firebirds.
