Game Day Preview: Women's Basketball Hosts Conference Foe D'Youville

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team is set to host D'Youville University ON Friday, January 6th at 7:30 PM.

Scouting UDC 

The Firebirds head into this conference match up, coming off a 56-54 win over Salem University on Wednesday. They were led by Destiny Ryles and Latavia Jackson who posted 17 and 15 points and Tori Williams grabbed a game high 11 rebounds. Ryles currently leads the ECC averaging 17.5 PPG, and Jackson is second with 16.1 PPG. Both have also earned ECC Player of the Week honors this season. Ryles also leads the conference in steals and assists per game. UDC is currently 7-7 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. They opened up conference play defeating preseason favorites St Thomas Aquinas College 68-58 at the end of November. UDC entered the 2022-23 season voted to place third in the ECC preseason poll. They finished 13-15 last season and had their first post season appearance in the conference since 2016. This marked the first under head coach John Nakpodia. 

Scouting the Saints

The Saints fell to LeMoyne, 59-71, in their last outing, falling to 2-8 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. Brianne Moxley leads the team with 10.9 PPG and Anna Jankovic leads the conference with 11 RPG. D'Youville was voted to place 9th in the ECC preseason poll after finishing 15-12 last season. Their lone conference win of the season comes from a 56-49 victory over Queens College in early December. 

History

The last time these two teams met was on February 7th, 2022 and D'Youville walked away with the 64-59 victory. The all-time meeting record between these two teams is 1-1, as their first meeting happened last season as well, with the Firebirds defeating the Saints 85-59.
