Firebirds Defeat Dolphins 2-1 on Senior Day to Earn ECC Play-Off Spot

Washington, D.C- The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over Staten Island in a thrilling East Coast Conference match that decided their post season fate. With goals from Santiago Gordillo Martinez and Isaiah Daniel, the Firebirds secured their third ECC win of the season and the #6 seed in the upcoming Play-offs. Ten Firebirds were also celebrated prior to the match for Senior Day. 

UDC took an early lead in the 14th minute when Santiago Gordillo Martinez found the back of the net with an assist from Nicholas Reyes, making it 1-0. Staten Island quickly responded, equalizing in the 25th minute through Miguel Espinosa.

The Firebirds regained the lead just before halftime when Isaiah Daniel scored from the penalty spot in the 44th minute, putting UDC ahead 2-1. Despite pressure from Staten Island in the second half, UDC's defense held firm, with goalkeeper Giovanni Llamas making key saves to preserve the win.
