Rockville Centre, NY - The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team faced a tough 3-0 defeat against conference foe Molloy University on Saturday at John A. Darcy Field. Despite creating several scoring opportunities, the Firebirds were unable to find the back of the net against a strong Molloy side. The Firebirds fall to 0-1 in conference play while the Lions improve to 1-0.
Molloy took control of the match with a late first-half goal in the 39th minute by Diogo Ferreira, assisted by Nick Leon, who flicked the ball into the box, setting up Ferreira's finish. The Lions extended their lead in the second half with a goal from Sean Salgueiro in the 67th minute, following a cross from the right side that resulted in a 2-on-1 opportunity. Nick Leon sealed the victory with an unassisted breakaway goal in the 88th minute.
