Firebirds Battle Hard on Senior Day Against St. Thomas Aquinas

Washington, DC – The University of the District of Columbia men's lacrosse team honored its senior class on Saturday afternoon, hosting St. Thomas Aquinas College in the final home game of the season at the UDC Sports Complex. Despite a determined effort, the Firebirds fell 30-10 to the Spartans.

Before the game, UDC recognized its senior class, celebrating the careers of student-athletes who have given their dedication and leadership to the program.

The Firebirds showed grit throughout the contest, led offensively by Julian Schemm, who recorded a game-high three goals and three assists. Maxwell Hansberry and Dylan Donaldson also contributed two goals apiece, with Donaldson adding an assist. Gabreleul Yacob and Jordan Schemm each found the back of the net, rounding out the Firebirds' scoring.

UDC fought to keep the game competitive after a challenging first quarter. The Firebirds outscored St. Thomas Aquinas 2-0 early in the second quarter with goals from Donaldson and Hansberry, cutting into the early deficit. Schemm's back-to-back goals in the third quarter kept UDC's offense energized, and a quick goal from Yacob at the start of the fourth quarter brought the Firebirds into double digits.

In goal, Israel Amajioyi turned away 16 shots for UDC, while the Firebirds collected 34 ground balls as a team.
