UDC Men’s Basketball Falls to Virginia Union in Home Opener

Washington, D.C. - The University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team dropped their home opener to Virginia Union University, 66-52, on Saturday afternoon at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex. Despite a valiant effort, the Firebirds struggled offensively in the second half and were unable to overcome Virginia Union's balanced attack.

Virginia Union took control early, leading 32-26 at halftime. The Firebirds fought to close the gap but were outscored 34-26 in the second half. UDC was led by Khyrie Staten, who scored a team-high 14 points, and Gene Anderson, who was just one point shy of a double-double with 9 points and 12 rebounds.

Virginia Union's Tahj Harding spearheaded their effort with 18 points and 7 assists, while Che Evans added 16 points and 3 rebounds.
