UDC Track Athlete Latoya Allen Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

Washington, DC: Latoya Allen, a senior sprinter at the University of the District of Columbia, has been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association 2011 Division II All-Academic Track & Field team. Allen, a Social Work major at the University, is a District of Columbia native and 2008 graduate of Dunbar High School.

New York, NY – The Adidas Grandprix (AGP) was held on Saturday, June 11, at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island in New York City. One of the nation's premier outdoor track and field invitational meets, it is the sixth stop on the international Samsung Diamond League circuit. The Adidas Grand Prix is one of 14 Diamond League track meets around the world, one of only two held in the United States. UDC Head Track Coach, Alton McKenzie, was among the elite volunteers working at the event. Global Athletics & Marketing Inc. is the meet owner and promoter, while Mark Wetmore served as the meet director. The Samsung Diamond League is comprised of 14 of the top invitational track and field meets in the world, spread across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the USA.

Greensboro, NC: May 15, 2011- With an exceptional run by team members sophomore Callister Jones (Marketing-Fort Washington, MD), junior Kaneesha Hollis (Criminal Justice- Centreville, MD), junior Latoya Allen(Social Work- Washington, DC) and senior Saleena Green (Marketing- Kingston, Jamaica), the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women’s 4x400 team, again, won convincingly at the North Carolina A&T Aggie Classic, with a season’s best time of 3:48.41 seconds, a time which is the 24th fastest 4x400 time run by any team in Division II this outdoor season.

College Park, MD: May 5, 2011--UDC’s Women’s 4x400 Team turned in another excellent performance with a convincing win at the Kehoe Twilight Meet held at the University of Maryland. With a strong lead off from sophomore sprinter Callister Jones (Marketing-Fort Washington, MD), the Firebirds dominated the field from the gun to cruise to a comfortable win with a season’s best time of 3:48.99.

Philadelphia, PA: In a thrilling battle for victory in Heat 7 of Thursday's Penn Relay’s 4x400M Relay, the University of the District of Columbia's Firebirds Women's 4x400m RelayTeam of sophomore Callister Jones (Marketing- Fort Washington, MD), junior two-time All- American Kaneesha Hollis (Criminal Justice- Centreville, MD), junior All-American Latoya Allen (Social Work-Washington, DC) and senior three-time All- American Saleena Green (Marketing- Kingston, Jamaica) ran a NCAA Championship provisional qualifying time of 3:49.74, finishing in 2nd place.

Baltimore, MD- April 25, 2011--The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Track Team registered a major breakthrough during last weekend's Morgan State Legacy Meet when its women's 4x400m relay team ran 3:51.70 to win their heat, convincingly, in Baltimore, Maryland.

April 16, 2011: Newport News, VA - The UDC Women's Outdoor Track & Field team made significant strides at the CNU Blue and Silver meet despite high winds and inclement weather that blasted the South over the weekend. Freshman Areial Clark (Criminal Justice Major-Kennesaw,GA) claimed victories in the women's Shot Put with a distance of 11.94m and in the Javelin with a personal best of 29.64m.

Charlotte, NC: April 9, 2011-The University of the District of Columbia Firebird Women's Track & Field Team posted some strong performances and showed improvement in several areas as they competed at the Johnson C. Smith University Track & Field Invitational in Charlotte, NC last Saturday.

Raleigh, NC: March 26, 2011- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women’s Outdoor Track & Field team competed in the North Carolina State University Raleigh Relays on March 25-26, in Raleigh, North Carolina. This was one of the largest, most competitive track meets in the Southeast. Sixty-one women’s teams participated, in addition to professional athletes running unattached.
