Women’s Track & Field Competed in the J.C. Smith Invitational on Saturday
Charlotte, NC: April 9, 2011-The University of the District of Columbia Firebird Women's Track & Field Team posted some strong performances and showed improvement in several areas as they competed at the Johnson C. Smith University Track & Field Invitational in Charlotte, NC last Saturday.
The team gained three high place finishes. Junior high jumper Stacy Griffith (Architecture-Fredericksburg, VA) finished 6th in the women high jump out of a field of 22, with the distance of 1.57m and senior Dicoda Waugh (Business-Kingston, Jamaica) and freshman Shauna-Kay Creary (Business Management- Kingston, Jamaica) were in a 6-way tie for 12th at 1.52m.
Freshman Areial Clark (Business Management-Kennesaw, GA) threw the distance of 12.08m for a 6th place finish in the women shot put. The 4x100 meter relay team also did well, finishing 6th out of a field of 15 with the time of 48.28 seconds.
Members of the 4x100 meter relay team are sophomore Shemeia Barnes (Criminal Justice-Forestville, MD), senior Saleena Green (Marketing-Kingston, Jamaica), senior Erica Nixon (Health Education-Bronx, NY) and freshman Jasmine Smith (Architecture- Baltimore, MD). Green also competed in the 400m dash, finishing 11th with the time of 58.99 in a field of 43.
Junior Kaneesha Hollis (Criminal Justice-Centreville, MD) had a strong finish in the women 800 meter run, finishing 8th in a field of 38, with the time of 2:24 .48. Sophomore Callister Jones (Marketing- Ft. Washington, MD) finished 17th.
The Firebirds return to the oval on April 16 at the Christopher Newport University Blue & Silver Challenge in Newport News, Virginia.
