UDC Women’s Cross Country Competes at Delaware State Hornet Invitational
SMYRNA, DE – The University of the District of Columbia women's cross country team opened its season by competing in the Delaware State Hornet Invitational Saturday morning. The Firebirds finished with a team score of 172 and placed 7th of seven teams.
Leading the way for UDC was junior Shayna Hodge, who finished in 25:28.70 to place 28th out of 54 competitors. Senior Brittany Okon was the next in for the Firebirds at 36th place with a time of 27:30.10.
Coming in together at 40th and 41st place, were UDC's Temera Duncan and Shannell Hibbert at times of 29:35.30 and 29:38.20, respectively, and UDC's 5th and final scoring finisher was Niasia Harding in 46th place with a time of 32:04.10.
Also finishing for the Firebirds were Kenlyn Duncan (48th, 32:08.70), Jasmine Walker (49th, 33:57.00) and Stacy-Ann Rowe (51st, 36:47.10).
Winning the meet was Division I Maryland-Eastern Shore with a team score of 32. Morgan State and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy tied for 2nd place with a score of 59, Coppin State was 4th with 120, Delaware State was 5th with 133, and Goldey-Beacom College – the only other Division II school competing, was 6th with a score of 139.
UDC will return to action next week on Saturday, September 17th at the Cappy Anderson Invitational in Princess Anne, MD.
