Firebirds End Cross Country Season at ECC Championships

BROOKVILLE, NY - The University of the District of Columbia women's cross country team ended its season with an 8th place finish at the East Coast Conference Championships hosted by LIU Post. 

The Firebirds were led by a personal best performance from freshman Kay-Tiarra Johnson (Psychology – Hempstead, NY/Hempstead HS), who finished 49th overall (amongst 84 competitors) with a time of 21:24, besting the time she ran on this course back in September.

Junior Kimoy Mais (Mass Media – St. Andrew, Jamaica/St. Andrew HS) was the next scorer for UDC, running 23:50 to finish 70th overall.  Third through fifth for the Firebirds were sophomore Marlena Wright (TV Production – Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton HS) in 24:10, sophomore Simone Grant (Health Education – Bronx, NY/Pelham Prep Academy) in 24:18, and junior Jerily Benjamin (Health Education – Queens, NY/Phillip Randolph HS) in 24:19, respectively.  Freshman Charmaine Sweeney (Computer Science – Landover, MD/Largo HS) ran a personal best of 24:19 as the 6th finisher for UDC. 

With this meet, the Firebirds wrapped up their cross country season and will now switch gears as they prepare for the 2013-2014 Indoor Track & Field Season.
