Firebirds Compete at Towson University Cross Country Invitational
TOWSON, MD – On Saturday, September 21st, the University of the District of Columbia women's cross country team traveled to Oregon Ridge Park to compete in the Towson University Cross Country Invitational – the Firebirds' third meet in a three-week span.
UDC was once again led by sophomore Simone Grant (Health Education – Bronx, NY/Pelham Prep Academy), who finished the very challenging 5K course in 24:20. Freshman Kay-Tiarra Johnson (Psychology – Hempstead, NY/Hempstead HS) was the next Firebird finisher with a time of 24:27.
Sophomore Jerily Benjamin (Health Education – Queens, NY/Phillip Randolph HS) was 3rd for UDC in 24:37, and freshman Charmaine Sweeney (Computer Science – Landover, MD/Largo HS) was 4th in 24:42. Sophomore Christina Baker (Forensic Psychology – Kingston, Jamaica/Collegiate Institute for Math & Science) rounded out the Firebirds top-5 with a time of 25:11.
District of Columbia finished 8th of 9 teams competing in the meet. The Firebirds have a week off before they compete at the George Mason Invitational in Manassas, VA on Saturday, October 5th.
