University of the District of Columbia Women's Cross Country Finishes 7th at Towson Invitational

HUNT VALLEY, MD- On Friday afternoon the University of the District of Columbia women's cross country team competed in the Towson University Cross Country Invitational. The Firebirds placed seventh out of the eight teams competing with sophomore Kimoy Mais leading the charge (Mass Media - St. Andrew, Jamaica/St. Andrew HS). Mais finished in 25:47 for the 5K which placed her 40th  overall.

Finishing second for the Firebirds was freshman Jerily Benjamin with a time of 27:36 (Queens, NY/Phillip Randolph HS) and placing 47th. Junior Jeania Bagley 27:56 (Journalism- Forestville, MD/Friendly HS), and senior Shemia Barnes (Criminal Justice- Forestville, MD / Largo HS) followed closely, finishing 49th and 50th, respectively. Juniors Shauna-Kay Creary (Accounting- Kingston, Jamaica / St. Andrew HS) and Jasmine Smith (Architecture- Baltimore, MD / Polytechnic HS) also ran well, placing 52nd and 53rd each.

"We had great weather, but the course was the toughest one we've faced so far this season," head coach Alton McKenzie said. "Nonetheless, they competed hard and the ladies earned the next week off."

The Firebirds' next meet will be October 6th at the Delaware State Farm Run Invitational in Smyrna, DE.
