Stellah Sang Places 1st in NCAA Southeast Regional

Wingate, NC: November 3, 2007—University of the District of Columbia sophomore Stellah Sang led a field of 115 runners to win first place in the NCAA Women’s Cross-Country Southeast Regional at Wingate University in North Carolina today. Sang stunned the field by finishing the course in 23:32, out pacing runners from schools in the 6K run that have perennially finished first in the event.

Sang will now move on to compete in the NCAA National Cross-Country Championship on November 18, in Joplin, Missouri. She will be the first, ever, UDC female to qualify to compete in the National Championship. Sang was also named the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Runner of the Year.

Other UDC runners finishing were junior Maurisa Williams , 83rd in 28:43, sophomore Shakira Watford, 101 in 31:52, sophomore Ericka Cook, 33:17, junior Danielle Cook, 111 in 33:30, and freshman Erica Nixon, 113 in 34:00. The team finished in 13th place overall with 286 points.
