District of Columbia Women’s Volleyball Closes Out the Season With Loss Against East Coast Conference Opponent Mercy College, 3-1

Washington, DC – The University of the District of Columbia Women's Volleyball Team showed heart and determination, but the Firebirds were unable to pull off the victory at home in the final game of the season.

The first set was back and forth with Mercy College taking an early lead, but the Firebirds Charged back to tie the set at 23-23.  Mercy outlasted UDC, however, winning the set 25-23.  The second set was Mercy all the way as they took control and never looked back, winning 25-18.  The third set proved to be a different story as the Firebirds pulled ahead and won the set 25-13.  UDC was unable to maintain that level of play, however, and they dropped the fourth set 25-15.

The Firebirds were paced by junior middle hitter/ outside hitter Vanessa Garley (Rio Rancho, NM - Rio Rancho HS) on the day with 19 kills and 8 digs.

With the victory the Mavericks advance to 10-24 with one game remaining, while the Firebirds end the season 11-22.
