District of Columbia Women’s Volleyball Falls to Bridgeport in Three Sets on Dig Pink Night

Washington, DC – The University of the District of Columbia Women's Volleyball Team fell to East Coast Conference (ECC) foe Bridgeport University 3-0 at home in the UDC Gym.  The District of Columbia Columbia student-athletes worked hard to raise funds for the Susan G Komen Foundation and the Sideout Foundation as part of Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Despite the goodwill, the Firebirds could not pull off the victory at home.  With the loss the Firebirds fall to 11-19 while the Purple Knights advance to 15-4.

The first set was closely contested in the beginning, and Bridgeport held an early 9-8 advantage.  The game was in reach for the District of Columbia, but the Purple Knights pulled away winning 25-17.  The second set was a different story as Bridgeport jumped out to an early 9-2 lead and never looked back winning 25-14.  The third set did not fare much better for the Firebirds as Bridgeport controlled the set from start.  The Firebirds battled back, however, to get within five points at 23-18, but Bridgeport held on to win to finish winning 25-18.

The Firebirds return to action on Sunday as they take on the Purple Knights again in Bridgeport, CT at 2:00 PM.
