UDC Women's Volleyball Takes Down Virginia State in 4 sets.

Ettrick, VA – The University of the District of Columbia Women's Volleyball Team traveled to Ettrick, VA to take on Virginia State University.  The Firebirds prevailed 3-1 after 4 sets of extremely competitive action.  With the win, UDC sits at 6-10 while the Trojans fall to 6-11.  This was the second time this season that the two teams faced each other, with UDC winning the first match on September 2nd at the UDC Women's Volleyball Tournament in Washington, DC.

The first set was neck and neck all the way up to a Firebirds 20-19 lead.  UDC then scored the last four points in a row to close out the set 25-19.  The second set was again tight all the way to the end.  The Firebirds established control towards the end of the set, leading 20-15.  The Trojans then rattled off 13 of the next 16 points to steal the set away from the Firebirds.  With the match hanging in the balance the 3rd set was a dog fight once again.  Ultimately tied 25-25, the Firebirds were able to pull away winning the next two points and the set.  With a 2-1 lead heading into the 4th set, the Firebirds looked to establish control of the match once again.  But the Trojans still had fight left in them, and the set was tied at 20-20.  The Firebirds then mustered up the effort they needed to close out the match as they scored the final five points on the day.

The Firebirds were led by junior libero Grace Perilli (Lewisburg, WV – Independence HS) who had 7 kills and 20 digs on the day.  Freshman Kamene Rose (Chula Vista, CA – Hilltop HS) had 32 assists, while senior setter/ outside hitter Grace DeMichelis ( Aurora, CO – Overland HS ) had 8 kills and 19 digs.  Junior outside hitter/ middle back Vanessa Garley (Rio Rancho, NM – Rio Rancho HS) had 9 kills and 12 digs.

The Firebirds return to action on Thursday as they travel to Richmond, VA to take on Virginia Union at 6:00 pm.
