Firebird Volleyball loses to Molloy College (NY), 3-0

Washington DC– The UDC Women's Volleyball Team dropped to 1-4 in the East Coast Conference today as Molloy College (NY) overpowered the Firebirds, 3-0. The Firebirds split the two weekend ECC matches at home. UDC is now 5-10 overall while the Molloy College Lions improve to 2-0 in the league and 5-9 for the year.

Molloy started off quick playing to a 12-6 lead, but UDC tied the score at 15 all. Hitting mistakes made the Firebirds call a timeout with the Lions up 19-15. Molloy got the best of the volleys from there on in and finished the set with a 25-20 win.

The second set saw Molloy's continued dominance. Senior outside hitter Angelica Nicalek had 12 kills in the first two sets for the Lions.

The third set was again all Molloy with Nicalek, the senior from Valley Stream, NY leading the way. She had an impressive line score with 19 kills and 36 total attacks. Junior libero and outside hitter, Grace Perilli (Thompson Station, TN/Independence HS) played well and had 7 kills, 16 total attacks and 14 digs for the Firebirds.

UDC travels to Ettrick, VA this Tuesday to take on Virginia St. University at 6:00 pm. The Firebirds are not at home again until October 8th when they take on ECC foe NYIT in a Saturday 2pm matchup.
