Firebirds End Season on High Note Defeating Virginia State 3-0

Petersburg, VA: November 1, 2010-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Volleyball Team ended their regular season on a high note tonight, defeating the Virginia State University Trojans, 3-0, in Petersburg, Virginia. Senior middle hitter Karen Trevino (Political Science-Anthony, NM) closed out her regular season playing career leading the Firebirds to the win with 12 kills, 2 service aces,  12 digs. and a .880 career hitting average.

Mirella Nunes, a junior outside hitter, Business major from Sao' Paulo, Brazil, and junior outside hitter Grace DeMichelis (Political Science-Aurora, CO) made 8 kills apiece in contributing to the win. Nunes also had 2 service aces and 10 digs, and  DeMichelis 2 service aces, 13 digs and 25 assists.

The match went to four sets, with VSU winning the first 25-23, and UDC the remaining three, 25-17, 25-18, and 25-11. The hitting percentages for UDC was .095 while VSU was  in a deficit with a -013.

The Firebirds concluded the season with a 20 and 8 record.
