Firebird's Volleyball Sweeps Trinity, 3-0
Washington, DC: September 23, 2010- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Volleyball Team swept the Trinity University Tigers, 3-0, tonight at the UDC Sports Complex in Washington, DC. Senior middle hitter Karen Trevino (Political Science-Anthony, NM) led the Firebirds scoring with 9 kills, and 5 digs. Set scores were 25-5, 25-7 and 25-6.
UDC outside hitter sophomore Vanessa Garley (Business-Sao' Paulo, Brazil) and sophomore outside hitter Grace Perilli (Economics-Nashville, TN) tallied 6 kills apiece, with Garley also getting 8 service aces and 2 digs, while Perilli also made 3 service aces . Junior outside hitter Mirella Nunes (Business-Nashville, TN) added 4 kills, 9 service aces and 1 dig to the scoring leadership.
UDC, currently ranked, #2 in the country among Division II schools in aces served, added 23 more aces to their stats in tonight's match. The Firebirds also had a strong .524 hitting percentage compared to the Tiger's -.200.
With this win, the Firebirds improve to 9-4 for the season. They return to action on Saturday September 25, at Washington Bible College in Lanham, Maryland for two matches.
