UDC Sweeps Washington Adventist, 3-0, in Women's Volleyball

Washington, DC :September 14, 2010-- Outside hitter Vanessa Garley (Business major-Rio Rancho, NM) paced the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Volleyball Team to a, 3-0, win over the Washington Adventist University Shock tonight at the UDC Sports Complex in Washington, DC. Garley scored a match-high 16 kills, 6 service aces and  5 blocks in the winning effort.  The set scores were 25-6, 25-1 and 25-5.

In addition to Garley, outside hitter Mirella Nunes ( Business major-Sao' Paulo, Brazil) also reached double figures in kills, tallying 13, while delivering 9 service aces and making 4 digs Junior outside hitter Karen Trevino (Political Science major-Anthony, NM) added 9 kills and 3 service aces, followed by sophomore outside hitter Grace Perilli (Economics major-Nashville, TN) with 8 kills 3 service aces and 4 digs.  . Each of the Firebirds scored at least 2 kills in the match.

UDC Head Volleyball Coach Sheila Weaver was tremendously pleased with the outcome of tonight's match , stating that  "The team played outstanding.  They executed well.  They continue to work well as a unit minimizing errors."

The Firebirds return to the court on Saturday, September 18, against Goldey Beacom College in Wilmington, Delaware.
