UDC Defeats Bowie in Three Straight Sets

Washington, DC: October 10, 2009—Junior middle hitter Karen Trevino (Anthony, NM) led the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women’s Volleyball Team to their second consecutive win over the Bowie State University Bulldogs this afternoon in the UDC Sports Complex. The Bulldogs took an early lead in each of the sets only to see the Firebirds come from behind to win, 25-21, 25-17 and 25-22.

Trevino leads the Firebirds in scoring adding a match-high 14 kills to her season stats, giving her a total of 128 and a hitting percentage of .170. Following Trevino in scoring was Ashley Jefferson, a junior outside hitter from Manvel, Texas who made 9 kills and 3 digs, and Carmen Smith a junior outside hitter from Houston, Texas who made 5 kills and 10 digs. Junior setter Joi Upton (Baltimore, MD) made the win possible by giving 26 assists.

Ashley Robinson, a junior middle hitter from Cleveland, Ohio led the Bulldog scoring with 8 kills and 4 digs. JaTyra Heath, a junior outside hitter from Federalsburg, Maryland followed with 7 kills and 2 digs.

UDC (2-8) returns to action on October 19, at home against Trinity University at 7 p.m.
