Firebirds Compete Valiantly in ECC Opener Against Bridgeport

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia Women's Lacrosse team was defeated 22-8 against fellow East Coast Conference competitors the University of Bridgeport on Monday afternoon.

The Firebirds (0-3, 0-1 ECC), fell behind early on before senior Kianna Franklin added her first goal of the day to give the Firebirds their first goal of the day. Franklin would go on to score four goals and add two assists to be the joint highest goal scorer on the day.

Freshman Terri Nashe grabbed a goal to make it 5-2 and that was shortly followed by another goal by Franklin.

Franklin would then go on to score another goal a few minutes later to make it 7-4 to the visitors. The highlight of the game would happen with just over six minutes remaining on the clock when freshman Sarai Reyes-Roman claimed her first collegiate career goal off a well worked assist by Franklin.

However, the Purple Knights took a 15-5 lead into the half and going into the second half, the visitors grabbed seven consecutive goals to give them a 22-5 lead.

UDC fought valiantly in the final minutes taking three goals by Reyes-Roman getting her second of the day, Franklin getting her fourth of the day, and Nashe adding her second of the day to make the final score 22-8.

The Firebirds will return to action when they visit St. Thomas Aquinas for another ECC matchup, on Saturday, March 14th at 11AM.
