Firebirds Shut Out in Loss at Queens

FLUSHING, NY – The University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse team was defeated, 15-0 by East Coast Conference foe Queens College on Thursday afternoon at Queens Lacrosse Field.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dani Falco (Elementary Education – Middletown,NY/Valley Central HS) stopped 15-of-30 (50-percent) of the shots she faced, but the Firebirds could not generate any offense as they fell to 0-6 (0-3 ECC) in the program's 2nd season. Sophomore defender Aaliyah Carter (Business Administration – Woodbridge, VA/Gar Field Senior HS) led the team with two shots on goal.

Queens (1-4, 1-2 ECC) was led by attacker Taylor Martello with a game-high seven points on five goals and two assists. Fellow attack Alyssa Acevedo pitched in with five points on four goals and one assist and midfielder Janet Campo added four points on three goals and one assist.

The Knights, who earned their first victory of the season, out-shot UDC , 39-6, won 12-of-18 draw controls, and won 25 groundballs to UDC's 10. Queens was 3-of-4 on clear attempts with only one turnover while UDC was 1-of-9 on clear attempts and turned the ball over 10 times.

Next up, the Firebirds will take on ECC foe Molloy on Saturday, April 4th at 12 p.m.
