Lopez Scores Lone Firebirds Goal in Loss to Roberts Wesleyan

WASHINGTON, DC – Sophomore attack Jazmin Lopez netted the lone Firebirds goal as the University of the District of Columbia suffered a 21-1 loss vs. East Coast Conference foe Roberts Wesleyan on Friday afternoon at Woodrow Wilson HS.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dani Falco (Elementary Education – Middletown, NY/Valley Central HS) made nine saves in the losing effort as UDC fell to 0-5 on the season.

The Redhawks (7-4, 2-2 ECC), who feature three of the ECC's top-five scorers, raced out to a 5-0 lead less than eight minutes into the game. Loren Dunn, the leading scorer in the conference, scored on a free-position shot within the first minute of play, and Cassley Jackowski (ECC 3rd leading scorer) and Lauren Marks added two goals apiece to lead RWC on its fast start.

Lopez (Graphic Design – Pembroke Pines, FL/Charles W. Flanagan HS) scored her 2nd goal of the season and 6th of her career nearly 10 minutes into the action to temporarily stop the bleeding, but the Redhawks tacked on eight more goals while holding UDC scoreless the remainder of the half and led 13-1 at the break.

The Firebirds, who took seven shots in the first half, struggled in the second half with only 1-of-13 successful clear attempts and 17 turnovers as they managed zero second half shots.

Meanwhile, Roberts Wesleyan took 18 shots and tallied eight goals in the second half as the Redhakws cruised to a lopsided, 21-1 victory.

Eleven different Redhawks scored, including four goals apiece by Dunn (41 goals this season) and four goals and a game-high three assists by Jackowski (30 goals this season). Ali Fox, the 5th leading scorer in the ECC, also added three goals and one assist.
