Firebirds Soar Past Dolphins to 62-42 Conference Victory

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-  The University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team picked up an away conference victory over the College of Staten Island, Wednesday evening at the Sports and Recreation Center. The Firebirds improved to 8-8, 4-3 in the ECC and the Dolphins fell to 3-11, 1-6 in league play.

UDC featured all players making their way on the scoreboard with Destiny Ryles, Tori Williams, and Kensley Benjamin leading the way with double digits. Ryles flirted with a triple-double off 12 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds, while managing to grab a game-high five steals. Williams picked up her third double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Benjamin came off the bench to pitch in 11 points.

UDC got out to an early lead outscoring the home team 19-11 in the first quarter but struggled from the field in the second, resulting in the Dolphins cutting the deficit to just four points going into halftime.

The visiting Firebirds would hold the CSI to just 14.3% shooting from the field in the third to increase their lead to 17 points which they would later extend to a 20 point victory game.

UDC (8-8, 4-3 ECC) will have the next week off before traveling back to N.Y. to face off against D'Youville on Friday, January 28 at 6:00 pm. The game will be live-streamed on the ECC network.
