UDC Women’s Basketball Defeated by SNHU 74-45

ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team wrapped up their opening weekend with a tough loss to Southern New Hampshire University 74-45, on Sunday afternoon at the Corino Court. The Firebirds fell to a 1-1 record while the Penmen improved 2-0.

Seven Firebirds made it on the score sheet with Kensley Benjamin leading the way with 11 points. Latavia Jackson and Destiny Ryles both contributed eight points and six rebounds with Ronnasia Blatch-Huggins leading UDC with seven rebounds.

The Penmen started the game with a 13-2 run resulting in a 25-11 lead over the Firebirds going into the second quarter. The next two quarters saw the Firebirds fighting to stay in the game, but despite their best efforts couldn't make up the 14-point deficit that SNHU gained in the first quarter.

The Firebirds eventually fell 74-45 after the Penmen outscored them 14-7 in the last quarter.

Next up UDC (1-1) will host their first home game of the season against Nyack College. The game is slated to begin at 5:00 pm.
