Mugun's 6th Place Finish Leads Strong Firebirds Men's Cross Country Effort at LIU Post Invitational

BROOKVILLE, NY - The University of the District of Columbia's Men's Cross Country Team participated in the 17-team LIU Post 8K Invitational on Saturday and was paced by another strong performance from reigning East Coast Conference runner of the week, senior Hillary Mugun. The Firebirds finished 9th among the 17 Teams participating in the meet.

With a time of 26:33, Mugun (Accounting - Nandi Hills, Kenya/Meteitei HS) finished 6th among 161 competitors who competed at this year's meet. Next for the Firebirds was reigning East Coast Conference rookie of the week, freshman Baldin Needham (Sociology - Browns Town, Jamaica/St. Jago HS) with at time of 28:11 for 34th place. He was followed closely by senior Zephaniah Koech (Accounting - Nandi Hills, Kenya/Terige HS), who was 40th overall with a time of 28:29. Rounding out the Firebird finishes were freshman Najee Anderson (Criminal Justice - Bowie, MD/Charles Flowers HS) who was 112th in 32:01 and junior Dorelle Smith (Criminal Justice - Daytona, FL/Trinity Christian Academy) who finished 152nd with a time of 39:38.

"We accomplished what we set out to do for this meet, which was to familiarize the newcomers and to refresh those who previously ran the course," head coach Alton McKenzie said following the meet. "We had great weather to compete in and the team ran well. We look forward to returning for the ECC Championships a few weeks from now."
