Mugun Earns ECC Runner of the Week; Needham Garners Rookie of the Week

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Senior accounting major Hillary Mugun (Nandi Hills, Kenya – Meteitei HS) and freshman sociology major Baldin Needham (Browns Town, Jamaica – St. Jago HS), both of the University of the District of Columbia men's cross country team, were honored as respective East Coast Conference Runner of the Week and Rookie of the Week for their performance at the Delaware State Invitational this past weekend.

Mugun, an All-American who transferred from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, was the individual champion of all the 51 competitors in Saturday's DSU 5K Invitational with a time of 15:31.  The ECC pre-season runner of the year ran 35 seconds faster than last year's performance when he earned a 2nd place finish. He is the first Firebird men's cross country runner to be honored as the ECC Runner of the Week.

Needham opened his collegiate career with an impressive time of 16:45, earning him an 8th place overall finish.  Needham is also the first Firebird men's cross country runner to be honored as the ECC Rookie of the Week.

The Firebirds are back in action on Saturday at the LIU Post Invitational in Brookville, NY.
