Hillary Mugun Captures Fifth 1st Place Cross-Country Win of Season, Women’s Team Also Competes

 Newark, DE: October 16, 2010—Hillary Mugun (Accounting-Nandi Hills, Kenya), a member of the University of the District of Columbia Men's Cross-Country Team, recorded his fifth 1st place win of the season, today, at the University of Delaware 2010 Blue & Gold Cross-Country Meet. The Meet was held at the White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, Delaware.

Competing against elite runners from 139 NCAA Division I and II schools, some highly ranked, Mugun outdistanced them all coming in first place with the time of 25:33.58 minutes. Head Coach Jasmine Rogers said of Mugun's win, "Hillary did an outstanding job once again.  He has been training hard, and it showed in his performance. He improved his time by 12 seconds since the last time we ran on that course in September.  He dominated the competition, beating all Division I competitors in route to his victory."

 

Other Firebirds finishers in the 8k race were junior Linus Kosgei (Nursing-Kapsabet, Kenya), 45th with the time of 28:35.86, sophomore Zephaniah Koech (Accounting-Nandi Hills, Kenya) 51st with the time of 28:47.46 and junior Justin Chemallan (Nursing- Nandi Hills, Kenya) 113th with the time of 32:03.95 minutes. 

In the women's competition, junior Kaneesha Hollis (Criminal Justice-Centreville, MD) turned in the highest place finish for the Firebirds, coming in 80th with the time of 22:29.39. Senior Demia Franklin (Public Health-Baltimore, MD) finished 84th, sophomore Callister Jones (Marketing-Fort Washington, MD) 85th, freshman Areial Clark (Business Management-Kennesaw, GA) 119th, freshman Amber Lindsay (Biology-Upper Marlboro, MD) 128th, freshman Ashlee Lindsay (English-Upper Marlboro, MD) 129th, junior Latoya Allen (Social Work-Washington, DC) 131st, and freshman Shauna Kay Creary (Business-Kingston, Jamaica) 132nd.

 

The Firebirds finished their regular season at Delaware and now turn their attention to the NCAA Atlantic Regionals, which will be held in Raleigh, North Carolina on November 20th.
