UDC Men's Soccer Extends Win Streak to Two; Defeats Seton Hill 3-2

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team extended their win streak to two games after defeating Seton Hill 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at the RFK Fields. They start the season 2-0, for the first time since the 2014 season.

Five Firebirds made their way unto the scoresheet, including junior Forward/Midfielder Kenec Elvir who scored his first collegiate goal. Giovanni Campero added his first goal as a Firebird and his second assist of the season. Graduate Midfielder, Zouhir Warid led the field with two assists and Freshman Midfielder, Axel Gamez added his first collegiate point with an assist.

While it was the Griffins who struck a goal first, it was the Firebirds who picked up momentum as they went on to score the next three goals of the game. After being denied by the goalkeeper on his first attempt, Sophomore Forward, Santiago Gordillo Martinez, doubled back with a feed from Campero that he landed in the back of the net to even the score 1-1.

The next goal came a little over 15 minutes later after Elvir sunk his first collegiate goal to give UDC the lead going into half-time. UDC would then extend that lead to two after Campero's goal at the beginning of the second half had them up 3-1. The game wasn't over yet as SHU scored another goal to cut back the deficit to one. They were also given a penalty kick opportunity at the 79th minute which was denied by, Senior Goalkeeper Javier Abadia Torres. The Firebirds managed to hold the Griffins off and bring it home with the 3-2 victory.

UDC (2-0, 0-0 ECC) will host West Chester University on Wednesday, the 31st at the RFK Fields. The game is slated to begin at noon.
