UDC Men’s Soccer Defeated by No. 13 Mercyhurst, 4-0

ERIE, PA – The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team trailed No. 13 nationally-ranked Mercyhurst, 1-0 at halftime, but was ultimately defeated, 4-0 on a sunny Thursday afternoon at Mercyhurst Soccer Field.

UDC surrendered only one goal in the first half as the Firebirds played stingy defense and junior goalkeeper Louis Connor (Elementary Education – Birmingham, England/Arthur Terry School) stopped two of the three shots on goal. The second half; however, the Lakers erupted for three goals on seven shots and ran away with the win.

Redshirt sophomore Jack Watson, who entered the game the leading scorer in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and No. 11 in the nation in goals, scored all four Lakers goals to lead his team to victory. He now has 10 goals on the season.

UDC, ranked No. 5 in the NSCAA East Region poll, fell to 4-2-1 with the loss. Mercyhurst, ranked No. 2 in the Atlantic Region, improved to 6-2.

On Saturday, the Firebirds return to East Coast Conference play where they are 1-0 thus far after last week's 4-2 victory over Queens. UDC visits Roberts Wesleyan in Rochester, NY for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
