UDC Men’s Soccer Pulls off a Thrilling 2-1 Victory over West Chester University with a Two Goal Flurry in the Second Half.

Washington, DC – UDC Men's Soccer pulled out another win at home today as the Firebirds downed the Golden Rams 2-1.  With the win the Firebirds improved to 3-0-1 at home and 6-3-1 overall.  With the loss the Golden Rams drop to 2-6-2 on the year.

The game was very much in question with less than twenty minutes remaining and the Golden Rams holding a firm 1-0 lead.  The momentum changed dramatically, however, thanks to the friendly foot of junior midfielder Tansu Korkmaz (Istanbul, Turkey – Ozel Dogan Lisesi) who notched two assists over a minute and a half span.  Korkmaz has now notched a team high 5 assists on the year.  At the 73:43 mark Korkmaz booted a pass downfield to senior captain forward Bakary Coulibaly (Hyattsville, MD (Mali) - La Lumiere HS).  Coulibaly controlled the pass temporarily and then rocketed a shot to the low right part of the net to tie the game.  Only a minute and a half later, the Firebirds grabbed the momentum for good, scoring their second goal of the game.  This time Korkmaz found sophomore midfielder Ramu Davis-Johnson (Washington, DC - Woodrow Wilson HS).  David-Johnson controlled the ball just inside the box, and sent a beautiful floater over the Westchester goalie's head and into the top part of the net.

The lone goal for West Chester occurred in the 27th minute of the first half on a penalty kick from freshman midfielder John Frederick.

The Firebirds return to action on Saturday at 12:00 noon at home versus California (PA).
