Firebirds Defeat Pitt-Johnstown, 2-1, in Overtime Play

Germantown, MD: October 27, 2007—Junior midfielder Guswende Kyemtore sent the ball to the back of the net in the 4th minute of overtime to give the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds a 2-1 win over the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown Mountain Cats this afternoon at the SoccerPlex in Germantown, Maryland. It was Kyemtore’s 4th goal of the season.

Arik Misler gave UPJ the lead in the 16th minute scoring on an unassisted play. Sophomore David Agbaza knotted the score at 1 in the 75th minute and the score remained tied until the end of regulation.

The teams were close in the number of shots taken, with UPJ taking 15 and UDC 14. Firebird sophomore goalie Togba Liberty had 5 saves to  Mountain Cats Craig Neff's 2 saves. UDC committed 16 fouls to UPJ’s 6, with two Firebirds getting yellow carded, and Devron Henry receiving a red card and being ejected from the match.

UDC Head Coach Khary Stockton said, " This was an inspirational win, the team showed lots of heart and intensity, even after losing one player as the result of a red card."

UDC 3-7-1, will finish their season on Monday, October 29, 2007, when they take on Mercy College at 3 p.m., in Germantown, Maryland. UPJ ended their regular season with today’s loss at 10-6-2. They will begin WVIAC quarter finals play on October 30, at Alderson-Broaddus College.
