UDC Defeats Goldey-Beacom, 2-1, in Soccer
Wilmington, Delaware: October 10, 2007—Junior defender Diego Lahaye led the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds to their second win of the season by defeating the Goldey-Beacom Lightning, 2-1, this afternoon in Wilmington, Delaware. Lahaye scored both UDC goals in the win, with the first coming in the 64th minute with an assist from junior mid-fielder Myron Douglas, and the second in the 77th minute unassisted.
John Beaucejour scored Goldey-Beacom’s goal in the 63rd minute with an assist from Xolani Muwalo. The teams were pretty close in shots with UDC having taken 19 and Goldey-Beacom 16. UDC had 9 shots on goal to Goldey-Beacom’s 4.
Firebird goalkeeper Toga Liberty had 3 saves, while Lightning goalkeeper Garrett Shuler made 7 saves.With this win, the Firebirds are now 2-6-1 for the season.
The Firebirds will be back in action on
Friday, October 12, in a re-match with the Columbia Union College
Pioneers, who defeated them 4-2 on September 11th. Columbia Union
will host UDC at home in Takoma Park, Maryland at 2 p.m.
