Firebirds Swept by Golden Lions 7-0

Germantown, MD-- The Golden Lions of Dowling College had little sympathy for the struggling University of the District of Columbia Firebirds today, as they swept them 7-0 in soccer action in Germantown, Maryland. The temporary Firebird home field was more advantageous to the visitors than the Firebirds as they shutout the home team in 95 degree weather.

Dowling wasted little time in making their presence felt by scoring their first goal in the 6th minute of the match, then two more in the first half. The Golden Lions went on to score four more goals in the second half to sweep the Firebirds for their third straight loss of the season.

Dowling’s  Ahmadoul Gaye scored three of the Golden Lion’s goals to pace the team to the win and a 3-1 season record. The Firebirds fell to 0-3 for the season.

The Firebirds next contest will be against the Columbia Union College Pioneers at the Trinity University Soccer Field on September 11, at 3 p.m.
