UDC Men's Basketball Announces 2022-23 Schedule

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's Head Men's Basketball Coach, Mike Riley has announced the schedule for the 2022-23 season.

"We are working to blend the old with the new. We have 5 student athletes who are playing here for the first time and need to learn how we do things," said Coach Riley. "The team played better at the end of last season and we want to continue on that path."

UDC wrapped up the 2021-22 season with a 9-20 overall record and a 8-10 record in the ECC. The Firebirds return nine student-athletes, including ECC Second-Team picks Kenyon Stone and Jahmir Marable-Williams. They also welcome five new Student-Athletes, Eric Morgan Jr (Washington, DC), Montez Steele (Washington, DC), Rashad Faust (Washington, DC), and  Micah Campbell (Waldorf, MD) into the mix.

"We have a demanding schedule playing 8 games in the month of November including the HBCU challenge vs Lincoln University and Bluefield State. The expectations are to be playing solid and aggressive basketball by the end of November to compete in our league, and the goal is to win the league."

The Firebirds will start the season off with a couple of scrimmages in late October/ early November, including the annual exhibition match against Howard University on November 9th. They open up the regular season with a Home game against Alliance University on the 14th and will begin conference play hosting the reigning ECC Champions, St Thomas Aquians College on November 30th.

The first three matches in December will be away, starting with back to back match ups against ECC foes Mercy College and Staten Island. They end the year off with a Home game against Frostburg State on the 30th.

The months of January and February will be comprised of all Conference games, seven of which will be hosted in the UDC gymnasium, as they vie for a spot in the post season in March.

"We will be patient with the learning curve, but we must hurry while we wait,"- Coach Riley.
