UDC Ranked No. 7 in Final USTFCCCA East Region Poll; Several Individuals Earn All-Region Accolades

USTFCCA All-Region Winners Release

NEW ORLEANS – The University of the District of Columbia Women's Outdoor Track & Field team finished the 2016 season with a No. 7 ranking in the final United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region poll. Several individual Firebirds earned All-Region accolades in their respective events as well.

The Firebirds were ranked in the top-8 in the region across nine events, including two relay teams. They earned a team total of 199.05 points.

Senior Simone Grant – this year's East Coast Conference Athlete of the Year in both Indoor and Outdoor Track – earned three separate All-Region honors in the Long Jump, 400M and 4x400M Relay. Her teammates on that 4x400M Relay team – Jerily Benjamin, Jasmine Walker and Marlena Wright – also earned All-Region honors as the foursome finished ranked 3rd in the region with a season-best time of 3:54.46. Individually, Grant was 1st in the region in the Long Jump with a season-best 5.78M and 4th in the 400M at 56.47s.

Benjamin, in addition to earning All-Region honors in the 4x400M Relay, also earned individual All-Region honors for the 400M, placing 5th in the region with a season-best 57.44s. Freshman standout Saida Burns-Moore also earned two All-Region honors as she ranked 3rd in the High Jump with a season-best 1.65M and 4th in the Triple Jump at 11.33M.

Finally, junior Brittany Okon and sophomore Stacy-Ann Rowe also each earned All-Region honors, with Okon finishing the year ranked 3rd in the Long Jump with a season-best 5.56M and Rowe 4th in the 100M Hurdles with a season-best 14.81s.
