Several Firebirds Run Season Bests in Final Tune-Up Race Before ECC Championship Meet

SMYRNA, DE – Six different Firebirds ran season bests at the Delaware State Pre-Conference 5K Invitational Saturday, October 7th, in what was their final tune-up race before the East Coast Conference Championship meet on October 21st.

Senior Dabrin Snorton paced the Firebirds with a season-best time of 23:57.7 to place 24th overall in a field of 46. Snorton shattered her previous season-best time by well over two minutes.

Next in for UDC was senior Shayna Hodge, who knocked two seconds off of her previous best time in the season opening meet back on September 1st and finished in 26:04.0 to place 32nd overall. Likewise, sophomore Temera Duncan took a few seconds off her season best time of 26:51.31, as she finished 33rd overall with a time of 26:47.4. Senior Kenlyn Duncan crossed the finish line exactly one second after Temera to place 34th, as she shattered her season-best by one minute and 40 seconds.

Freshman Dajour Jones finished next for UDC, placing 36th overall with a time of 27:25.1, and freshman Aisha Dozier took over a minute off her previous season best time to place 38th in 28:17.0.

Sophomore Shannell Hibbert finished 39th in 28:53.7, junior Shaneika Bowra finished 40th in 29:09.4, junior Shakeithia Nicholson was 41st in 29:30.6, senior Jasmine Walker was 42nd in 31:17.1, and senior Stacy-Ann Rowe was 45th in 35:31.1. Nicholson, who last week ran her first career race in under 30 minutes, bettered her season-best time again this week by 18 seconds.

UDC now has two weeks to prepare for the ECC Championship meet on October 21st in Old Westbury, NY, hosted by New York Institute of Technology.
