Firebirds Compete at East Coast Conference Cross Country Championship Meet
ROCHESTER, NY – The University of the District of Columbia women's cross country team competed in the East Coast Conference Championship meet hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday in Rochester, NY. The Firebirds finished with a team score of 239 and finished 9th overall.
Senior Brittany Okon paced the Firebirds with a team-best time of 24:26.0, placing 45th overall. Okon was the first of a pack of UDC runners that came in within 35 seconds of each other. Junior Shayna Hodge was the next runner in three seconds after Okon (24:29.3) to place 46th, and junior Kenlyn Duncan was 32 seconds after Hodge (25:01.5) for 47th place.
Freshman Shannell Hibbert came in 49th place with a time of 26:52.8, and freshman Temera Duncan was the 5th and final scoring finisher for the Firebirds at 52nd place with a time of 27:04.2.
Freshmen Niasia Harding and Deasia Greer also finished the race, as Harding placed 55th with a time of 33:22.1, and Greer was 56th in 33:33.8.
Roberts Wesleyan earned a three-peat as ECC champions with a team score of 31 points. The Redhawks' first five finishers all placed in the top-10 overall as they bested runner-up, Daemen by 17 points. St. Thomas Aquinas was 3rd place with 82 points.
This concludes the fall cross country season for the Firebirds, as they will not get ready for the Indoor Track & Field season under new head coach Joel Phillip.
