Firebirds Compete in East Coast Conference Championships Hosted by Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, NY - In windy Rochester, NY the University of the District Columbia women's cross country team toed the line on the grounds of Robert Wesleyan College for the East Coast Conference Championships on Saturday, November 8th.

 

With a field of 91 participants, the Firebirds demonstrated great competitive spirit as the team finished 7th overall with 193 points.

 

Sophomore Kay-Tiarra Johnson (Psychology – Hempstead, NY/Hempstead HS) led UDC and finished 67th overall in 22:44.1. Then, running in her final cross country meet as a Firebird senior, Kimoy Mais (Mass Media – St. Andrew, Jamaica/St. Andrew HS) was 70th in a time of 23:06.6 – just nine seconds off of her personal best time. Junior Christina Baker rounded out UDC's top-three, finishing three seconds faster than her last outing, in 24:31.7.

 

Senior Jerily Benjamin (Healt Education – Queens, NY/Phillip Randolph HS) finished in 25:36.1, junior Marlena Wright (TV Production – Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton HS) came in at 26:10.4, and junior Brittany Okon (Health Education – Bronx, NY/Pelham Prep Academy) rounded out the Firebird finishers at 28:09.1.

 

"The girls put forth a resilient effort despite the chilling weather," Volunteer Assistant Coach Kaydian Jones said. "I am proud and pleased by their performance, and I anticipate the caliber of results they will produce come Indoor and Outdoor Track seasons."
