Women’s Cross-Country Competes in Sea Gull Invitational

Salisbury, MD: September 4, 2010—The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women's Cross-country Team was among twelve teams competing at the Salisbury State University Sea Gull Invitational in Salisbury, Maryland, today. The Firebirds finished 8th overall in the event.

This was UDC's first time competing on the brand new 6k course, and at the additional 1,000 meter distance. The Firebirds normally run 5,000 meter events. Head Coach Jasmine Rogers said, "Since the course was new and the team had never previously run the 6,000m distance, I feel that they did very well."

Kaneesha Hollis (criminal justice major-Centreville, MD) finished 61st in the event, with the time of 26:10,  to lead the Firebird runners. Coach Rogers said, "Kaneesha started off the season strong and I look to see her improve as the season progresses."

UDC competes next at the Delaware State University Invitational in Dover, Delaware on Saturday, September 11.
