Firebirds Volleyball Cruises to 3-0 Win Over Washington Adventist

WASHINGTON, DC  –  A complete team effort led to a dominant, 3-0 win by the University of the District of Columbia volleyball team over crosstown rival Washington Adventist in a non-league match on Thursday night. The Firebirds won by scores of 25-2, 25-8 and 25-11.

"Many contributed to our win this evening," head coach Sheila Weaver said after her Firebirds squad improved to 4-5 this season. "Julia Lynch was very effective serving, Jasmine Rogers led the team in kills, and we had good overall play from everyone."

Rogers, a freshman Mechanical Engineering major out of Tucson, AZ (Palo Verde HS), swatted a match-high seven kills and hitting a scorching, .600 pct. for the match. Senior Vanessa Garley (Business Marketing – Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho HS) also pitched in with six kills as she hit .500 pct. on the night and also added three blocks (one solo).

Lynch, a junior Art major out of Spring Creek, NV (Spring Creek HS), had a match-high six service aces, all of which came as she served for 19 straight points in a 25-2 set one victory for the Firebirds. Sophomore Kamene Rose (Psychology – Chula Vista, CA/Hilltop HS), who pitched in with four of District of Columbia's 16 service aces, also directed the offense with 20 assists and not one ball-handling error.

The Firebirds are back in action on Tuesday, September 18th as they visit Mercy College at 7 p.m. to open their East Coast Conference schedule.
