Firebirds Volleyball Bounces Back With 3-0 Win at Bowie State

BOWIE, MD  –  The University of the District of Columbia ended a four-match losing skid with a dominant, 3-0 win at non-conference foe Bowie State on Tuesday night at the A.C. Jordan Center. The Firebirds hit .312 as a team as they won by scores of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-7.

Junior history major Tara Usko (Spring Creek, NV – Spring Creek HS) recorded a match-high 10 kills and hit .500 for the match as she helped the Firebirds improve to 3-5 on the season. Bowie State was led by Kasi Eisenzimmer with four kills and seven assists as the Bulldogs fell to 0-8 overall.

Senior business marketing major Vanessa Garley (Rio Rancho, NM – Rio Rancho HS) and junior art major Julia Lynch (Spring Creek, NV – Spring Creek HS) combined for 11 kills and 11 digs and sophomore psychology major Kamene Rose (Chula Vista, CA – Hilltop HS) directed the Firebirds offensively with 19 assists and a career-high six service aces.

The Firebirds tallied 16 service aces as a team and took advantage of 20 Bulldog hitting errors to win comfortably all three sets.

District of Columbia hosts non-conference foe Washington Adventist in its next match on Thursday, September 13th at 7 p.m.
