Firebirds Show Out at Norfolk State University Invitational

NORFOLK, VA- the University of the District of Columbia's Women''s Outdoor Track and Field team had a strong showing at the Norfolk State University Invitational 2 day meet.

Day 1

Zoe Shaw won the high jump with an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark of 1.67m, which is also a personal best for her. She then went on to place third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.45m

Emmanuela Katou Kouami placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.34m.

Things were also heating up on the track with Iyanna Jackson clocking in at 12.22s in the 100m placing second out of a field of 22 to qualify for the 100m finals.

Rainn Sheppard clocked in at 2:21.64 in the 800m to place third. Samantha Morrison ran a season best time 2:22.29 to place 5th and Ayesha Jarret placed seventh with a personal best time of 2:23.66.

 

Day 2

Serena Prince hit a personal best mark of 5.23m in the long jump to place fifth. 

Ryana Goldson placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 31.84m

Jarrett ran a season best 58.16s in the 400m and Tukey Francis hit a personal best time of 59.03. 

Jackson bested her time on Day 1 hitting a season best 12.15s in the 100m finals to place third overall. She went on to run a new season best time of 25.20s in the 200m to place third.

Sheppard placed second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:09.42. Kayleigh Shelton hit a season best 1:13.00 and Morrison clocked in at a personal best 1:13.17. 

 

The Firebirds are idle next week, but will be back in action on the 20th, to compete in the Morgan State meet.
