UDC Women's Track & Field Places Second in the ECC Outdoor Championships

ROCHESTER, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia's women's outdoor track and field team earned a second place finish in the ECC Championships, Saturday afternoon.

The Firebirds first round of points came in the 400m hurdles. Chacoia Wilkes placed third with a PB time of 1:06.64 and Kayleigh Shelton placed fifth to total eight points going into the 4x100m relay. 

The quartet of Janel Baxter, Kayla Cooper, Ayesha Jarrett and Kayleigh Shelton picked up ten points winning the 4x100m with a time of 49.05s. 

UDC earned 20 points in the long jump, with Cooper taking gold with a leap of 5.49m, Zoe Shaw earning bronze and Baxter placing fourth.

Jarrett, Tukey Francis and Dayna Thompson went 1,2 and 3 in the 400m to add another 24 points to the Firebirds total. Thios marks the second year in a row that Jarrett has won the 400m. 

Thompson went on to sweep the 100m and the 200m with a season best time of 24.89s. Shelton placed second in the 100m hurdles final. 

Shaw won the high jump with a season best jump of 1.60m and placed fourth in the triple jump. Kensley Benjamin earned a second place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 10.58m.

Kendra Williams threw 11.04m, to place second in the shot put and also placed fourth in the discus throw.

With all hands on deck the Firebirds put together a 4x800m for the first time this season, featuring Samantha Morrison, Christine Taylor, Isatu Bah and Chacoia Wilkes. They were able to add two points to UDC's total placing fifth. Morrison also finished fourth in the open 800m. 

The Firebirds ended the day winning the 4x400m with a time of 4:03.75 to bring their final total to 148 points, which was good for second behind Roberts Wesleyan who ended with 160 points.
