UDC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Team Competes in Season Opener

TOWSON, MD- The University of the District of Columbia's women's outdoor track and field team had a strong showing at the Towson Invitational, to open the season.

Day 1

Kayla Cooper crossed the line in the 200m with a time of 25.73s to place 14th out of a field of 40. Her time was the fastest division II time of the meet. 

Emmanuela Katou Kouami placed eighth out of a field of 27 in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.00m and 13th in the shot put with a mark of 10.82m. Teammate Kendra Williams placed 15th with a mark of 10.72m.

Day 2

The Firebirds had three athletes break 60 seconds in the 400m. Dayna Thompson was up first placing 5th with a time of 58.12s. She was followed by Ayesha Jarrett and Tukey Francis who placed seventh and tenth with times of 59.29s and 59.50s. This trio along with Iyanna Jackson went on to place third in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:01.15.

Kouami also placed eighth in the discus throw with a mark of 37.44m.

Up next, UDC will compete in the Gallaudet Bison Classic next Saturday in Washington, DC.
