Warm weather brings season bests for the Firebirds.

Fredericksburg, VA- The University of the District of Columbia women's Track and Field team took great advantage of the weather and ran some season best times at the Mary Washington Battleground Relays on Friday and Saturday in Fredericksburg, VA.

Friday

With talks of rainy weather plaguing Day 1 of the meet, The Firebirds prepared themselves for whatever the day had to bring. First up on the Track for the Firebirds was the 200m dash, which saw six of the Lady Firebirds take the line. Leading the way for UDC was Shannell Hibbert (Last week's ECC Track Athlete of the week) who took first place with a season best time of 25.91s. Teammates Cierra Roberts and Patricia McLean wasn't too far behind placing third and fourth with times of 26.55s and 26.78s. Another Noteworthy performance of the 200m came from basketball standout Natasha Roy who won her heat with a time of 29.20s.

Saturday

Building off of their performances from yesterday and with the sun out and on their side the Firebirds braced themselves for a series of great performances that was to come on Day 2. First up for the Firebirds was the Sprint Medley Relay which saw the quartet of Shanise Rose, Temera Duncan, Shaneika Bowra and Tishana Dorn taking first place with a time of 4:19.65.

Next up Rose would take the track to compete in the 100m hurdles prelims. She would place second in her heat with a time 0f 16.01s and make it into the finals where she placed fourth overall with a time of 16.49s.

With top four finishes in every track event they've participated in thus far, the 100m would fall in line seeing Hibbert and Roberts finishing first and second with season best times of 12.48s and 12.58s, respectively.

Hibberts and Roberts would shortly join their teammates Bowra and Rose in a dominating performance in the 4x100m relay with a season best time of 47.23s to beat the other teams by over 2 seconds.

The 400m then saw Bowra placing third with a time of 1:01.12 and Aisha Dozier placing fifth with a season best time of 1:02.01. Dozier would later join teammates Hibbert, Dorn and Roberts for the last event on the track, the 4x400m, which saw them with a strong first place finish.

The Firebirds also had some noteworthy performances in the field events as well. Roberts took first place in the long jump with a jump of 5.29m . Nyla Houston placed third in the Shot put with a throw of 10.25m and Tajah Franklin placed seventh with a throw of 9.64m.

With less than two weeks left to go before the ECC Conference Championships the Firebirds look to improve on performances next weekend at the Eastern Shore Challenge on April 13.
