Two Firebird Relay Teams, Two Individuals Earn Division II USTFCCCA All-Region Honors

NEW ORLEANS – The University of the District of Columbia's Kaydian Jones and Shauna-Kay Creary, as well as the 4x100M and 4x400M relay teams all earned United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honors, it was announced Monday, May 12.

The top five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions' top three relay teams. The regions used for this award match those used during the cross country season, and student-athletes must come from USTFCCCA member institutions.

Jones (Journalism – Kingston, Jamaica/St. Andrew HS) led the team with four All-Region distinctions including: the 100M, 200M, 4x400M Relay and the Long Jump.  Jones had three season-high marks at the Jim Kehoe Twilight Invitational on May 2nd including:  12.12s in the 100M, 24.77s in the 200M and a school-record 5.80M in the Long Jump.

Creary (Accounting – Kingston, Jamaica/St. Andrew HS) also earned All-Region in two events: the 4x100M Relay and the Triple Jump. She achieved a season-best leap of 11.98M in the Triple Jump at last weekend's Coppin State Invitational.

Meanwhile, the 4x100M Relay team of Creary, freshman Brittany Okon, senior Jasmine Smith and sophomore Simone Grant had its season-best running of 48.01s at the George Mason Invitational on April 12th. The 4x400M Relay team, which earned All-America honors in the Indoor season, had its season-best mark of 3:44.99 at this year's Penn Relays on April 24th. That team consists of Jones, junior Jerily Benjamin, sophomore Marlena Wright and Grant.
