Hollis Still Ranked Nationally; Several Firebirds Remain Regionally Ranked

NEW ORLEANS - The University of the District of Columbia women's outdoor track and field team is ranked No. 8 in the East Region according to the latest USTFCCCA poll released May 8th. Also, several individual Firebirds are regionally ranked in their respective events, including Kaneesha Hollis who is also ranked nationally in the 400M.

Hollis (Centreville, MD - North Caroline Senior HS) is No. 1 in the East Region and 31st in the nation in the 400M event with her personal best time of 55.74 in the Johnson C. Smith Inivitational on April 13th.

Callister Jones (Fort Washington, MD - Oxon Hill HS) is No. 2 in the East Region in the 400M event. She too, ran a personal best at the Johnson C. Smith Invitational, coming in at 56.14.

Two Firebird relay teams are also among the region's best including the 4x100M and 4x400M teams. The 4x100M team of Atiya Amis, Jasmine Smith, Shauna-Kay Creary and Kaydian Jones is 3rd in the region, and the 4x400M team of Kaydian Jones, Kaneesha Hollis, Kimoy Mais and Callister Jones is 3rd after its season-best time of 3:51.98 at the Jim Kehoe Twilight Invitational  last Thursday.

Also, Areial Clark is 4th in the East Region in the shot put and Kaydian Jones is 6th in the long jump after her season-best clearence of 5.48M last Thursday at the Terrapin Invite.

The Firebirds will be competing in the University of Virginia Invitational in Charlottesville, VA on Saturday, May 12th. Then, depending on Saturday's results, select members of the team may compete on Sunday at the Georgian Court Last Chance Meet in Lakewood, NJ.
