UDC Women's Track & Field Finish Second at ECC Championships
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- the University of the District of Columbia's women's Indoor track and field team had a strong showing at the ECC Championships finishing second place overall out of 11 schools.
UDC opened the meet with a bang sweeping the 60m dash, with Iyanna Jackson (7.77s), Kayla Cooper (7.77s) and Dayna Thompson (7.81s) earning 24 points in the event.
Cooper went on to win the 200m with a season best 25.47s, for the second year in a row, while also anchoring the second place 4x400m relay and leaping to fourth place in long jump to combine for 30 points total on the day.
Ayesha Jarrett placed second in the 500m, Tukey Francis placed second in the 400m and the 200m with season best times of 59.39s and 25.63s.
Samantha Morrison placed third in the 800m with a time of 2:21.98 and Rainn Sheppard placed third in the 1000m to combine for 12 points in the distance events.
Zoe Shaw placed second in the high jump, third in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump to contribute 15 points to the team total.
Emmanuela Katou Kouami placed third in the weight throw with a throw of 14.75m to add six points.
The Firebirds led all women's teams in the medal count with 13, boasting nine All-Conference honorees.
